New York, NY, June 13, 2012 — Last week on June 5th at the 15th Annual New York State Cyber Security Conference and 7th Annual Symposium on Information Assurance, Information Technology expert Raj Goel presented “Social Media and Cloud Computing Threats to Privacy, Security, and Liberty.” The conference was held at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, New York with keynote speakers that included Melissa Hathaway, the President of Hathaway Global Strategies, LLC and former White House Acting Senior Director for Cyberspace in the National Security Council. The conference opened with about 900 registrants from both public and private sectors. Along with cloud security, the conference covered sessions from identity and credit card theft to risk management.
Goel’s highly praised presentation focused on the impact that social media and cloud computing has on the communication of children, employees, and colleagues. Because social media has become a part of everyday life, there are problems with privacy and security that have arisen. With the use of case studies from around the world, Goel examined the negative effects of social media including losing jobs, college admissions, college degrees, fortunes, and freedom. By warning the public about these effects, Goel continued his presentation with strategies and steps to protect privacy and civil liberties in this time when social media has a huge impact on
people’s lives.
