Multi-Disciplinary Approach

Contrary to any impression that patient work-ups, planning and treatment is an academic exercise and deals solely with patient biochemistry and analysis of laboratory results and the interpretation of medical records, Dr. Keys believes that patient contact should be both mutually enjoyable, fun as well as interesting; Getting well or improving yourself should not be a pedantic exercise; accordingly, Dr. Keys also covers the following areas.

I. Nutrition & The Art Of Healing

II. The Art Of Movement

III. Education, Inspiration & The Art of Study

IV. Recreation & Rest

V. How To Relate To Others

VI. Using The Simple Virtues of Hope & Faith To Heal

The more support patients have the better they do. Dr. Keys likes people and would rather spend time with them then fill out forms. It is helpful to sit down with you and talk to you about your fears, your faith and whatever it takes to make you heal. Finding out initially what you believe and then, before, during or after your crisis helping you to experience support, friends, family or other resources helps you to heal. Even in cases with a poor prognosis, giving hope for something even short term for you is very important for your peace of mind. Creating a sense of faith and hope is important even for chronic illnesses as well. Hope and faith have turned out to be important factors in reducing frequency or length of hospitalization in double blind studies. See: Hudson, Teresa, Measuring The Results of Faith, Hospital and Health Network, (September 20) 1996;3. Finally, it is demonstrated in scientific studies what has been known for thousands of years; people do better and heal faster when they feel that somebody cares about them. Concern, kindness and respect go a long way in the healing process.
