Writers' Organizations

Writing is a solitary business. Joining one or more relevant groups may ease the isolation and offer important opportunities to share concerns, ideas, and experiences. The list below is in no way exhaustive. If you want your group added, please contact me.

American Society of Journalists and Authors - the ASJA is an organization of professional, independent (freelance) nonfiction writers.

The Authors Guild Offers services and info to help authors with the business and legal aspects of their work.

International Women's Writing Guild: - Non-profit organization which serves as a network for women writers. Sponsors a summer writing workshop.

International Thriller Writers - The web site of International Thriller Writers Inc, the world thriller writing organisation.

International Women's Writing Guild - Non-profit organization which serves as a network for women writers. Sponsors a summer writing workshop.

Mystery Writers of America - promotes the interests and welfare of mystery writers.

National Association of Science Writers - promotes the dissemination of science information in all media.

PEN American Center - the largest of 120 worldwide writers organizations dedicated to freedom of expression and promoting the writing and reading of literature.

Romance Writers of America - RWA provides its members with the opportunity to share experiences with other writers, to gain insights into publishing.

Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI)) - newsletter, workshops, conferences, grants, other resources.

Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America

Sisters in Crime - promotes equal treatment and improved opportunity for women mystery writers.

Writers' Guild of America - association for screenwriters.
