Thaumaturgix and Brainlink Announce HIPAA Seminar  Event to Educate NY Metro Area Hospitals on HIPAA

New York, NY, October 1, 2001 - Thaumaturgix, Inc. (http://www.tgix.com) and Brainlink International (http://www.brainlink.com), partners in supplying HIPAA compliance related services, today announced plans to hold an educational seminar on HIPAA compliance strategy geared towards hospital administrators. The event will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2001 from 2:00 PM until 5:15 PM at the offices of Thaumaturgix, Inc. in New York City.

"Hospitals have a lot of questions about HIPAA, and they're starting to realize what a massive undertaking compliance is going to be," said Jim Sheldon-Dean, HIPAA Practice Group Director at Thaumaturgix. "Our seminar is designed as an introduction to the different areas they will have to address to become HIPAA compliant - from technology and policy changes to staff education."

Raj Goel, CTO of Brainlink International added, "While much of HIPAA focuses on business policies and procedures, the regulations both require and imply a number of significant technology changes that must be considered. Understanding the scope of HIPAA's technical requirements is essential to assessing the status of a hospital's compliance and determining how to close the gap between where they are now and where they need to be."

The seminar will feature presenters from technology and legal firms that are actively engaged in HIPAA compliance work, including technologists Thaumaturgix, Brainlink International and RiskWatch, Inc. and the legal firm of Kirkpatrick and Lockhart.

Topics to be addressed include risk assessment, compliance gap analysis, systems remediation planning, automated and manual assessment methods, the importance of education in achieving HIPAA compliance, policies and procedures necessary for compliance, the role of legal firms and the impacts of technology changes.

Presenters will include Jim Sheldon-Dean, Director, HIPAA practice group, Thaumaturgix, Inc.; Charles Rawls, Vice President of Systems and Security, Thaumaturgix, Inc.; Raj Goel, Chief Technical Officer, Brainlink International; Racheline Maltese, Director of Communications, Brainlink International; Caroline Hamilton, President, RiskWatch, Inc.; and Craig Virgil, Associate Attorney, Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP.

The seminar will be held October 11, 2001 at Thaumaturgix, Inc., 19 West 44th Street, New York, on the 18th Floor. A rooftop reception will follow the seminar. Please call Jim Sheldon-Dean at 212-918-5092 or e-mail to reserve your space at the seminar or for further information. Press should contact Racheline Maltese at 212-221-8660 ext. 207.
